The Zoom Whitening Process

Zoom Whitening is an in-office procedure. It takes less than an hour and can leave your teeth up to 8 shades whiter. When you get Zoom Whitening, we will:

THOROUGHLY CLEAN YOUR TEETH

Zoom Whitening works best with clean teeth, so if you need a routine cleaning we’ll perform it and prepare your teeth for whitening.

PREPARE YOUR LIPS AND GUMS

We apply a protective ointment to both your lips and gums. This leaves your teeth exposed for the whitening procedure.

APPLY A HYDROGEN PEROXIDE-BASED GEL

We brush on a hydrogen peroxide gel to each of your teeth. This formula breaks down stains and begins to whiten your teeth.

APPLY AN LED LIGHT TO BOOST WHITENING

We use a Whitespeed Blue LED light to oxidize the whitening gel, allowing it to penetrate deeper and remove stains.

REPEAT, UNTIL DESIRED WHITENESS

Most Zoom Whitening procedures repeat the above sets 2-3. Each application takes roughly 15 minutes. The total procedure is less than an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Zoom Whitening work?

Zoom Whitening is actually a laser treatment. In conjunction with a hydrogen peroxide mixture, that laser is able to whiten and brighten your teeth.

When the peroxide comes in contact with the Zoom Light, it breaks down and releases oxygen, which helps flush discoloration from your teeth.

Am I a candidate for Zoom Whitening?

Generally speaking, if your teeth are healthy and you don’t have any prominent fillings, you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. If you do have fillings, we may need to take a few extra steps to get your smile whiter.

Individuals with veneers, composites, or bonding, may not be a good candidate for Zoom Whitening, either.

Should I get a dental cleaning before or after the procedure?

Yes. Prior to your Zoom Whitening, you should schedule a regular cleaning with Dr. Philley. The cleaning will remove any surface plaque so that the hydrogen peroxide mixture can penetrate your teeth.

How long is the procedure?

One procedure normally takes from 45 minutes to an hour. Your whitening treatment will be completed at the end of the session.

Does Zoom Whitening hurt?

Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity during and after the procedures. This varies from person to person, and if you have sensitive teeth you can discuss that with Dr. Philley and he can provide some remedies should you be concerned.

How can I keep my teeth white?

The best way to keep your teeth white is to avoid foods–and habits–that stain your teeth. This includes smoking, perhaps one of the worst things if you want to have white teeth. Coffee, red wine, and other beverages. Using a straw can also help keep your teeth whiter for longer.

How long does Zoom Whitening last?

As always, it depends on how well you take care of your teeth. If you avoid smoking or staining products and use at-home whitening trays, your results can last as long as a year.
